A stylish Star Alliance lounge is now open at Rome's Fiumicino Airport

Star Alliance travellers jetting out of Rome will enjoy a lush lounge experience following the opening of the new Star Alliance lounge at Fiumicino Airport.

Located on the upper level of Boarding Zone D in Terminal 3, with room for 130 passengers, the lounge is handy to the departure gates used by Star Alliance member airlines making short- to medium-range flights to European destinations in the Schengen Zone.

It's based on the same upmarket design as its popular siblings at Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

However, there's always some room for a local influence – in this instance, with Italian designer furniture providing an elegant, modern and fashionable look.

Preflight dining also enjoys an Italian touch including made-to-order signature dishes...

... and as for drinks, of course there's a tended bar and barista-pulled coffee.

The lounge has dedicated areas where travellers can work, relax or socialise...

... and – something we love to see in any lounge – there's no shortage of AC and USB power sockets so your tech can recharge at the same time as you.

(Curious about that quotation on the wall? It's a famous saw from Galileo which declares "all truths are easy to understand once they have been revealed. The difficulty is to discover them.")

Another welcome touch which we've seen in quite a few lounges of late is a private zone for making phone calls.

The Star Alliance lounge at Rome's Fiumicino Airport is open daily from 5.15am to 9.15pm for first class and business class passengers on Star Alliance member airlines as well as Star Alliance Gold-grade frequent flyers.

Early 2019 will see another all-new Star Alliance lounge open Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, along with a refresh for the existing lounges in Nagoya and Paris.

Rome is certainly seeing some swish lounges of late, with this new entry from Star Alliance following the opening of a similarly stylish space from Oneworld airline and Qantas partner British Airways.

Would flying Singapore business entitle us to use this lounge? And if yes is it convenient to where singapore flights leave?

That is actually a really interesting question.

As the article states, the lounge is located in zone D, at Schengen departure gates.
This is the opposite side of the terminal from zone E where all non-Schengen flights leave from.
Therefore it is certainly would be a bit of a walk between this lounge and departure gates for SG/TG/TK etc.

The bigger question is: Are Schengen and non-Schengen parts of the terminal separated into different security zones?

If all passengers (Schengen and non-Schengen) get through the same security check, it could be possible for non-Schengn passengers to go to area D and use the lounge.
They would need to leave the lounge pretty early to go through the passport control and enter zone E (which they would not longer be able to leave).

Unfortunately I don’t know the answer to that question.
Does anyone know?

Hi Zenad,

I live in Rome and use this this airport weekly. I would advise against trying to use this lounge for Singapore flights or others outside the Schengen Area. The lounge is really only suited to flights by Aegean, Austrian, Brussels, LOT, Lufthansa, SAS, Swiss and TAP.

Noting that Singapore flights depart from a satellite terminal very far from this lounge (and occasionally from an apron position by bus), plus to note that the queue for passport control has often taken me at least 30 minutes to pass [though you wouldn't need to go through security control again], I would estimate that you would need at least one hour to safely make your way from this lounge to the Singapore departure gates.

Singapore Airlines use another contract lounge (which has also been recently refurbished) right next to their gates.

I hope this helps.

For the record, the lounge mentioned by maestro is "Le Anfore" in the satellite terminal Gates E. Cheers

Hi Ho Really,

Just to inform you that "Le Anfore" no longer exists. It is now called "Passenger Lounge" and is a new refurbished and remodelled lounge.

Thanks maestro for clarifying this. I was there when the work was being done in March. Cheers

Guess if your leaving on an International flight it's back to the basement.
