Air China boosts Sydney-Beijing to a Boeing 777

By David Flynn, November 19 2018

Air China will upgrade its Sydney-Beijing flights to a Boeing 777-300ER in early 2019 as the Star Alliance member plans for high demand across the southern summer holidays and Chinese New Year.

The flagship jet levels up the travel experience from the Airbus A330 which usually plies this route, with eight private and spacious first class suites...

... and 42 business class seats which convert to a fully lie-flat bed.

The Boeing 777-300ER will be seen on Air China's Sydney-Beijing flights CA173/CA174  starting January 1 2019 through to February 28 2019.

As a member of the Star Alliance group, Air China business class passengers and travellers holding Star Alliance Gold-grade frequent flyer status can relax before their flight from Sydney in either the Air New Zealand or Singapore Airlines lounges, or indeed sample both (they're next door to one another).

Earlier this year Air China revealed the all-new business class seats of its factory-fresh Airbus A350 fleet, choosing the same well-regarded Rockwell Collins (formerly B/E Aerospace) Super Diamond model as seen on airlines such as Virgin Australia, Qatar Airways and American Airlines.

2019 will see Air China continue developing Chengdu, capital of the southwestern Sichuan province, as a secondary hub with its own routes into India and Europe.

Added to Chengdu's appeal is the 72-hour visa-free stopover which allows passengers in transit to catch up on business meetings with manufacturing partners or just visit the storied city (which dates back to 4BC) and its famous pandas.

David, any idea if CA plans to install these new business class seats on their 777/787/747 fleet?
