ANA resumes non-stop Perth-Tokyo flights

West Australians with their hearts set on a trip to Japan can once again do it in a single hop, with All Nippon Airways restarting non-stop flights between Perth and Tokyo Narita from this coming Sunday, October 29.

The once-popular route, which the Virgin Australia partner first launched in September 2019, has been on ice since the early days of the global pandemic. However, like ice at the onset of spring, the time has finally come for it to thaw.

From October 29, NH881 sees wheels up from Tokyo’s Narita Airport at a cheery 11:20am every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving into Perth at 8:30pm, ready for a quick turn around.

Overnight flight NH882 then waves sayonara to Perth at 9:55pm those same three days, touching down into Tokyo at 8:30am the following day.

Star Alliance member ANA is relying on its workhorse Boeing 787 for the route, with the aircraft sporting lie-flat business class seats – all with direct aisle access – ahead of a small premium economy cabin.

The return of non-stop ANA flights to Perth means West Australians will no longer have to transit via Sydney, though the double-daily connection to Tokyo Haneda still remains an option.

What’s more, these flights can be booked with Virgin Australia Velocity frequent flyer points thanks to the Virgin-ANA partnership, at the following one-way rates for an award seat:

  • 42,000 Velocity Points for economy
  • 63,000 Velocity Points for premium economy
  • 78,000 Velocity Points for business

However, at the time of writing, those bookings must be made through the Velocity Membership Contact Centre on 13 18 75 (or +61 2 8667 5924), with online bookings yet to come.

If you’re flying on a paid ticket you can earn Velocity Points and Status Credits, while Velocity Gold and Platinum members also enjoy perks such as priority check-in, priority boarding and a higher luggage allowance – but not, for now, access to ANA lounges.

Those travelling via Sydney can experience the upgraded Tokyo Haneda Terminal 2 from October 29, with the newer hub boasting better baggage drop facilities and security lanes plus the airline’s flagship ANA Suite Lounge and ANA Lounge

Several of ANA’s other international routes, including those to Singapore and Vancouver, will also switch over to Terminal 2 from the same day.

Great to see. On a related topic, is there any further update on when that reciprocal points earning/status benefits will kick off between VA and ANA? It was touted around 9 months ago but still isn't in place.

I’ve been waiting for this announcement too. Will it be from 28 June when the Cairns Haneda flights resume. Come on VA, make the announcement!

Transiting through Sydney is only a "have to" if you want to fly ANA.  Transiting in Singapore and other SE Asia locations is the most common routing for Perth - Tokyo travelers.  My trip this year (and booked again next year) was QF to Singapore and JAL Singapore-Tokyo.  Would be good if SQ and ANA could code share.  I don't mid paying a bit more to avoid over-night in economy.

1. The menus and wine lists for these flights (v. good ex NRT) are on the ANA website now - you can create a flight of 3 sake's for tasting (recommended)

2. Its a shame they fly to NRT as many of the connecting flights leave from Haneda, more accessible and closer to attractions etc - the trek between both airports is a pain

This would be an interesting concept for ex Adelaide people to use on the way over that is.Currently it's either SQ via Singapore or Qantas via Melbourne or Sydney or Brisbane.I would recommend Jetstar via Cairns but the schedules do not work at all.
