ANA’s new Airbus A380 superjumbo reveals also-new first class suites

Despite Airbus pulling the plug on the Airbus A380, Japan's ANA is ready to add three superjumbos to its fleet and unleash them on the competitive Japan-Hawaii route starting May 2019 – and there's a new first class to ferry well-heeled holiday-makers to Honolulu and back.
Taking pride of place at the front of the upper deck are eight first class suites in a very different design to ANA's Boeing 777 first class cribs.
Dressed in charcoal hues and arranged in a 1-2-1 layout, each cubicle has a sliding door for privacy, a sizeable 32" video screen and plenty of storage options, including a closet for jackets.
While considerably smaller than some other notable A380 first class suites, especially those of Singapore Airlines and Etihad Airways, these will no doubt suffice for the eight-hour flight between Tokyo and Honolulu. Until 31 August, first class travellers departing Honolulu will be treated to a menu produced by Noe, an upmarket Italian restaurant at the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina. 65 staggered 1-2-1 business class seats make up the bulk of the upper deck. While some of the finishes take their cues from ANA's current Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 business class, the lie-flat seats also bear a close resemblance to those of Emirates’ Airbus A380 with alternating window, aisle and centre pair seats. Creature comforts include an 18-inch touchscreen monitor, an AC power socket and two USB ports per passenger. The inflight menu focuses on Hawaiian cuisine, but of course, Japanese dishes will be available. Reward seats between Tokyo and Honolulu are available in all cabins including first class. ANA is part of Star Alliance and seats can be booked through all partner airlines frequent flyer programs, including Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer. Bit hard to tell from the photo if they've addressed the issue of blocking half of the window views with the current First Square. But judging on the middle 2, looks like they have.

I’m not sure if it’s just the photo not doing the F suites justice, but it looks kind of drab and penitentiary-like.

First reminds me of the JAL first colour scheme. Both Japanese airlines seem to use a very boring colour scheme for first class. Business colour scheme is much more pleasant.

Japanese culture is just like that. You will not see businessman wearing other color suit other than black with white shirt. Even tie color is very dull. They consider bright color as informal, something for high school girls.

The more I look at the first seats the more I don’t mind the scheme.. However a lighter tone on the doors, would brighten things and add the feeling of spaciousness..

HI Brandon I wanted to check with you as I understood that premium economy is also on the upper deck. You said that business class is on the "rest of the upper deck" and I guss I was I was wrong.

Hi 747sp, you are correct and premium economy is located at the back of the upper deck.

Hmm. It just looks like Cell-Block H or something. Turkish’s up-coming J cabin has the sophistication and decor palette happening.
