In brief: Passport, smartphone, book, Speedos... that's the packing list of almost half of Australia's business travellers, according to a survey conducted by Regus.

The Regus Business Travel Survey says that 47% of Aussie business travellers pack swimming gear or workout clothes for each trip – almost twice the worldwide average of just 27%, which means we're either very fit or more likely to lie on a survey. Australian Business Traveller is going with option #1).

We also like to read on the road, with 51% of Australian workers saying they take a good book with them when travelling for business. That's pretty much on par with the worldwide result of 49%.

What else do we pack? More than four out of five (82%) say they bring some "special item" of significance with them, with 15% citing this as a photograph of their family – something which we've previously suggested can help make a hotel room just a little bit more personal.

Almost one in five Australian travellers (17%) have BYO earplugs, putting us third behind China at 20% and the USA at 18%. The survey also reckons that we're third most likely to take some record of medical history on a business trip, after corporate travellers from Canada and India.

But when it comes to courting good luck we've got nothing on the Chinese, with 26% of Chinese travellers bringing a lucky charm compared to just 6% globally.
