Bangkok Flooding: Thai Airways cancels Europe flights in Nov, Dec

Thai Airways has cancelled some flights to Europe and the Middle East during the rest of November and into December, with flights from Bangkok to Copenhagen, Dubai, Frankfurt, London, Moscow, Paris, Rome and Zurich all affected.

The cancellations come as Thailand's capital continues to suffer from flooding, although Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport is currently unaffected.

Smaller Don Mueang (the old international airport) has been flooded and closed.

Specific Thai Airways flights to Europe and the Middle East on certain days have been cancelled according to information from the GDS airline scheduling system.

Australian Business Traveller requested a full list of cancelled flights from Thai Airways yesterday, and we will update this article when that full information is received.

For passengers heading to or from London, the airline's UK website lists the following flights as cancelled:

TG916 (departing Bangkok at 1330 to London at 1935) and TG917 (departing London at 2135 to Bangkok at 1555 of the following day) on 15, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 November 2011, 06 and 13 December 2011.

The airline's main site and other European sites are not currently displaying details of the cancelled flights.

Our advice: if you're planning to fly Thai over the next month or two, check regularly with the airline to make sure your flight is still leaving on time.

The airline is offering to change your ticket for no extra cost, however. The airline states:

All Thai tickets including redemption tickets issued on Thai's website (www.thaiairways.com) or by ticketing offices and travel agents issued Worldwide (except Greece) issuing date on or before 30 November 2011 with travel period during 01 October – 15 December 2011 reservation can be changed with no additional fees.

Aviation journalist and travel columnist John took his first long-haul flight when he was eight weeks old and hasn't looked back since. Well, except when facing rearwards in business class.
