British Airways' first class Concorde Room spins off Concorde Bar concept

British Airways will parlay the Concorde Room brand of its elite lounge at London's Heathrow airport to a new series of VIP nooks called Concorde Bars.

Somewhat less of a fully-fledged first class lounge, but certainly more than just a bar, these cosy havens will sprout at selected locations on BA's international lounge network.

Like its flagship parent, access to a Concorde Bar will be restricted to British Airways' first class passengers and top-tier Executive Club frequent flyers holding a Concorde Room Card or the invitation-only black Premier card.

The Concorde Bar makes its first appearance in the airlines' new British Airways Singapore Lounge, which opens this Tuesday August 25, "and it won't be the last that you see" suggests Rob Williams, BA's Head of Asia Pacific Sales.

"It's taking some of the Concorde Room concept from Heathrow and making it more useful for the oversea market" Williams tells Australian Business Traveller, "for first class customers who appreciate being given an area in which to go and sit quietly and not necessarily be in the larger lounge."

Williams confirms that these exclusive spaces will likely pop up in other British Airways lounges.

"We're looking to do this for some (lounges), there are absolutely some which are under review, but it has to be appropriate to the place we’re flying from, because the proposition is different in different lounges and in different parts of the world."

Williams cites some BA lounges "on the US east coast where we have preflight dining because the length of the flight is shorter, so they have access to a la carte restaurant experience."

On any shortlist for a Concorde Bar would therefore be lounges without an a la carte dining menu for first class passengers, where flights depart in the evening and are quiet long.
