British Airways upgrades Boeing 747 seats, inflight entertainment

British Airways is set to update its Boeing 747s, but it's the 'cheap seats' in economy and premium economy will enjoy the greatest dose of TLC rather than the pointy end of the plane.

BA's make-over will see 18 out of 48 of the venerable jumbo jets refreshed to bring them into line with the interior design of the new Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 jets.

All seats in World Traveller and World Traveller Plus will receive new foam inserts dressed in new seat covers.

Each passenger in World Traveller Plus will also get their own AC and USB socket.

There's also new carpets and curtains from tip to tail.

However, the biggest win will be the debut of a new inflight entertainment system with larger and higher-resolution touchscreens powered by Panasonic's latest eX3 package, which BA says will serve up "more than 130 movies and 400 TV programmes".

They have 48. They are doing this to 18. This would suggest that they won't have the other 30 for much longer.
