Car parking delays and disruption ahead for Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport is warning travellers about inevitable disruptions to parking facilites for the next 12 months while a new car park is constructed at the International Terminal in Mascot.

Located immediately north of the existing multi-storey car park, the new $47 million car park will add 2,300 spaces for a total of 6,150 at the International Terminal.

An airport spokesperson told Australian Business Traveller that construction is likely to last through mid-2012. Valet parking via Departure Road will be unaffected.

Sydney and Melbourne airports were recently slammed for having among the world's highest airport parking charges. Sydney's short-term parking is more than five times the rate at Los Angeles' LAX, while JFK is $20 cheaper for a day of parking than both Australian airports.

So if you're heading for Mascot, don't miss our in-depth report on the cheapest and most convenient car parks at Sydney Airport.
