When the announcement was made in August last year it was for an end of 2012 startup.  Having said that every progress report suggests they are ahead of schedule.  Still awaiting an official date but based on current suggestions some where in the sencond half of 2012.  I hope they get multiple routes running quickly, cause currently it can cost you up to $1000 for a return fare Tokyo - Sapporo......and that discount ecconomy! JAL and ANA are very good, but there needs to be some LCC competition in the doestic market.  Other rumour mills suggest the 787s could be earmarked for Jeststar Japan, maily for flights from Japan to China/Hong Kong/ Singapore etc.  But we may well see them on high density onternal routs such as Tokyo - Osaka.

FF Gold/Platinum should hopefully be given access to JAL lounges, no word on this yet.  Jetstar are an 'affiliate' member of OW, not a full member!

JAL on ANA is expensive, but jetstar will detour HK, and fly direct JAL - still expensive!

Jetstar will detour HK?? The allready do direct flights to Osaka and Tokyo from Gold Coast and Cairns, why would Jetstar Japan no do direct flights to Australi in the future?!? QF saccrificed most of their Japan routes (PER - NRT, MEL - NRT, CNS - NRT) for the single SYD - NRT because it made much better business sense for Jetstar to opperate these routes, and with the 787 they could no doubt make the route even more profitable.  I see no reason why these flights will go via HK.  As for how far JQ will fly....well they allready fly to Beijing and Holululu, Japan is no further, and it is well acknowledged that they can invisiage flying to Europe and America in the future.
