What do you think..I have enough points for either J class PER-MCR via DBX return, OR...F Class one way and economy return. The J class return makes sense, but I will never get the opportunity to fly F long haul again, so wondering whether it is worth the pain of looking forward on the return leg from the depths of cattle class? Is the difference on EK between J and F worth it?

If it involves long sectors on the Boeing 777-300ER rather than the Airbus A380, the answer is yes, F is worth it. (They have similar F suites, but the 777 has the old sloping J seat.)

Economy will be miserable anyway, but you're coming home so that's okay.

I say go for it.

It might be nicer to do the F sectors on the return leg - doing  them outbound might spoil you forever...

Good point...also they might see my ticket on the outbound sector and see I am coming back F...upgrade to take pity on me? LOL that will be the day !

Y in the 777's is tight. Mightn't be so bad only to Perth but I did SYD-DXB in Y on their 777 and for 14 hours it was way too cramped.

Oooh I didn't know you could fly to Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala (MCR) via Dubai!

J on both legs cetainly trumps F one-way, Y return.

The service difference between Y and J is enormous. The service difference between J and F, I'm not so sure about...

Do you have access to the Qantas First Class lounges i.e. Are you OW Emerald? If you are, definitely go for J on both legs and try to get seats in the front few rows of the J cabin.

Ignore the last sentence. I failed to read the question accurately and assumed the passenger is flying on QF metal.

Hi Babushka...sorry you are quite correct MAN not MCR...flying on EK and only a Gold member. You are on the same page as my wife who thinks I would be mad to go Y when J is available...just wanted to see what everyone thought of the F/J difference.

Lawrence,

I would do J on all sectors.TRB is on the money and as he states there are big differences between Y/J.You will be doing youself a favour as First is not worth it.Just enjoy the flights.

Yes another vote for J return. F is nice but as stated previously the gap between Y to J is far greater than J to F. The idea of travelling on a 777 in Y on Emirates is torture.

If you can fly F for the PER-DXB & DXB-PER legs and then Y for the DXB-MAN & MAN-DXB legs that'd probably be better.

If you do choose J in both directions, try to select a seat in the forward section on the 777s rather than the main J cabin.

Since the goal is to sample F class, how many miles short are you of redeeming miles for one segment? A MAN-DXB or DXB-PER leg? Is there a cheap mileage run, or some credit card points you can use to push you over?
