Flying out to BKK from BNE in May in Y class, tossing up between Thai and QF. I'm thinking about Thai because of the 77W and the extra legroom and better economy seats compared to current QF a330 seats (I don't think the new seats will be installed by the time I fly out), but I want to hear your guys thoughts and comments.

Easy winner: Thai. I haven't flown that route but from judjing the route I can say Qantas could be worse than TG. New aircraft and a good service.

I would personally go with Thai as it is a direct flight so you will save several hours. However they often substitute other aircraft (772 and 773) so you may easily get their other seats which aren't fully lie flat. The flights in the past few weeks have mainly been operated by 773 with a few 77W's even though they are scheduled to operate 77W's. Hope this helps.

Sorry thought it said J instead of Y, I would still go with Thai though.

Hmm, thanks for the heads up about the change of aircraft. Hopefully if I book a TG flight it will be on the 77W :)

Why not SQ? I've not reviewed the prices but if in Y, have no lounge access and don't mind a stopover (given that SYD/QF was considered) I'd go SQ.

What about EK?

I'm not sure if EK flies BNE-BKK-DXB. I know they fly to SIN then to DXB but if they fly to BKK I'll consider them as well. Just not feeling peculiar about 10 abreast seating.

EK goes via SYD (CHC/SYD/BKK/DXB) and you can book it via QF with a QF code, if QFF Status Credit accrual was a criteria.

Hmm not sure if I'm willing to fly all the way down to SYD to catch EK flight but if the prices are worthwhile I'll consider it :)

If you wish to fly Qantas you will have to do a stopover in Sydney anyway. Qantas does not operate a direct service from BNE to BKK.

Oh that's true I guess. Either Thai or SQ it is then.
