Minimal stops
Quality of Airline
Cost
For a non FF friend so points / SCs do not matter. Cheers

There really isn't a 'best' way to do this, if I'm honest. If you want the most direct routing, it's MEL-SYD-SCL on QF.

There is really only 2 options, QF or LA and either MEL-SYD-SCL or MEL-AKL-SCL

MEL-AKL-SCL doesn't really work as there's no QF/JQ flight to meet the LA flight AKL-SCL.
LA sells tickets from MEL via SYD, so it's either (QF)MEL-SYD/(QF)SYD-SCL or (QF)MEL-SYD/(LA)SYD-AKL-SCL.

Refitted Jumbos ply the SYD-SCL route so Economy on Qantas will be nice.
