Air NZ 787 business premier or Qantas a330 business suite

I'll be travelling to Auckland in January next year and I'll be flying business, I don't quite know what airline to choose, it's either Qanats or Air NZ, both products look pretty nice and comfy but I'd like to know which one is the best overall.

QF does not fly the 330 from the eastern states of Australia to Auckland.

So, unless you live in PER or are happy to start the trip from there to AKL, no 330 I am afraid, so the 787 with NZ is the only way.

I did the J 777 in herringbone fashing, not good if you are keen on looking out the window, but food, lounge access now that the SYDi Koru is up and running, is a plus.

PERi QP is not as good as SYDi QP.

So if you live in SYD/MEL, and want to try J, better use EK with a QF flight number, if you want the true J experience, forget the QF 737 JC.

OR NZ's 787/777.

Sorry, just to make sure, QF only flies their 330 from PER to AKL certain times of the year.

That pair is the only one you can use from Australia to New Zealand using QF's 330.

Seeing as you are based in Perth, yes both Qantas and Air New Zealand have direct flights in January. I'd be choosing the Business Suite with Qantas, but only if you are planning to depart on a Fri/Sat evening and return on a Sat/Sun afternoon.

I've flown the 787 in Business and it is very nice.  Make sure you go to the toilet.
Why not go one way with air nz and back with qantas and then let us know your thoughts :)

Does not matter - for such relatively short flight IMHO even QF old domestic business good enough (this is a joke of course :-). I would choose carrier base on other criteria - i.e. with whom you have better status etc.

I presume you're talking about the PER-AKL direct flights. Both QF and NZ services are night flights, so most likely a good sleep is the preference, in which case I believe the NZ product is more private and more comfortable. Both products have direct aisle access, but the NZ business class is a proper bed with a built-in mattress and memory foam underlay, instead of seat that reclines to become a bed. Also, with the herringbone setup, your head is further away from the aisle, giving more peace and quite.

WIth regards to the soft product, both are very good and known for excellent service, food, etc...

There are no guarantees that you'll be on a QF A330 with the new suites as not the whole fleet will be refurbished by Jan. On that basis, I'd go NZ.

Ah, silly me.

Should have noticed the OP has "Location: Perth".

Sorry.

Will be more alert.

Having flown both QF and NZ on the route I'd pick NZ. The others are right i the lack of consistency with the suite at the moment- unpredictable until they're all done. I found the service very good on both carriers but the NZ flight seemed more streamlined all up. Also extra good if a Velocity member with status.

Just make sure you don't book the 767 on Air NZ as they are operating 3 of their 10 weekly direct flights with the 767.  The 767 has an inferior product!!

You can easily check the aircraft type via the Air NZ booking website - Dreamliner is the way to go easily the best experiance on this sector - make sure you avoid the old 767,s as they are way past their best. Also the Auckland Koru lounge should be refebushed by them for your return leg. Enjoy your trip to the land of the long white cloud!!
