Bronze to silver status on qantas.

Hi Guys. Can anyone of you seasoned travelers out there please tell me if I can be looking forward to more award flights being made available to me in business once I hit silver status? The little voice inside me says not to get my hopes up too much. At the moment if I want to redeem an international flight in business more often than not its a domestic flight from syd to mel or syd to bne in business then the rest of the way is in economy. Very frustrating.

Don't hold your breath. Silver status on QF doesn't offer much in that regard.

Even Platinums can find it hard to get J award seats on international.

That I believe!

Having said that though, I'm Platinum with AA (equivalent of Qantas Gold, or OneWorld Sapphire) & their revenue management team opened up a seat specifically for me a few days ago in First on an international flight out of Kennedy that I wanted to use points to wholly purchase. I also see inventory (although less than Concierge Key/Executive Platinum of course - AA's equivalent of Chairman's Lounge/Platinum) not available for redemption by the elite level below me. I know this for a fact as a lesser elite who is a friend recently had me use my AAdvantage points to buy him a direct flight, as he could only see hideous connecting sectors; the direct flights were not viewable by him. Although AA is obviously a very close working partner & fellow OneWorld member along with Qantas, they are a different carrier of course, so it all depends. You can be lucky sometimes!

Qantas have more than 10 million frequent flyer members. Let's assume conservatively that 5% are gold or better.... A truck load of people on each and every flight are wanting to redeem those setas.

Only way to do a J international is to do it P+P, pumping up QF's profit.

That way you are paying for a J seat at discJ or full J fare, and then reduce it by your QF FF points balance, this will guarantee you a seat in one way or return J.

Upgragdes, you are fighting the masses, everyone wants to sit up ahead.

QF domestically you can request an upgrade and you get the answer asap, QF internationally, you can put in a request and they fill everyone elese before coming down the chain from CL/P1/WP/SG, then PS.

Give QF more money at the buying stage, P+P is the best, and you get that coveted seat.
