Hi Guys, Looking to go on a holiday late next yearish (not really fussed on timing) with the missus for a couple of weeks and would love to go in J, even if it was only one way,

I'm not too fussed about where to but she is keen on Hawaii. I've struggled to find any decent value in reward flights to Hawaii, so I would be open to basically any other good destinations (Japan, Vietnam, Italy, US, UAE are just a few that I would like to visit).

What I would like to know is where you guys think the best value for points is flying J in terms of:

- Seat quality (I hear there is a lot of variation between business classes on various airlines and plane models)

- Good availability of flights

- Low fees and taxes( I understand this can be a tradeoff? with some airlines having lower fees but higher points spend?)

- Reasonable costs at destination (budget for the trip will be about $5k or $6k so good hotels at reasonable prices are beneficial etc)

I currently have 125k Qff points, with another 40K due to land in my account in the next couple of months. I also intend on getting the 100K velocity points from the amex velocity platinum so should have that by the end of the year.

Thanks guys,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy - recently did an award flight on Emirates courtesy of many QF points.  We needed to get to anywhere in western Europe to attend a wedding.  Got a late award flight of 2 BC seats on the QF website flying Emirates Singapore-Kuala Lumpur-Dubai-Dusseldorf for 160K points.  Would have preferred not going via the ME but in the end, all was OK. Their BC seats were good, as was the service. However, when searching, we found that had we taken the same flight, but from KL in lieu of SGP then the fees would have been around $300 each.  The booking from SPG to KL was on Jetstar so was economy for the 1 hour flight, but the fees were only $80 each, points were the same. We were also lucky to get 2 FC seats return on BA London-Singapore but fees were enourmous.  Had we flown a short leg from Amsterdam to pick up the BA flight, the fees would have been again $80 each.  The return flights were booked on AA points for only 70K each.

Jeremy - should have added that the wedding was in the UK, but the exchange rate and cost of living in Europe was far better than in the UK, so we caught a ferry across the day before  the wedding.  Italy is a little cheaper than France, Belgium or Germany though all are worth a visit.
