Thanks for the quick advice. Just got back from a global trip and no time to fly anywhere so this will purely be a booking to get 20 status credits. (I'm in Sydney, BTW)
Q1: Do I actually need physically take the flight to earn status points or is making the booking enough?
Q2: Any suggestions on cheapest/easiest hack? I could use points to buy the flight. Jetstar flight Sydney to Melbourne for 15,000 points gets 10 status credits. Anyone have a better idea?

You dont give you location, but a very short trip anywhere on QF or even JQ will get you 20.

You have to fly to get those credits. Come on! Go to Melbourne for weekend! It worth even more then Gold status :-)))))
