Flying EK 777 Business 9A&B, Travel Agent says all first Business row 6 is blocked by EK, why would that be? Any recommendations for better/best seats on 777-300.

Blocked for Elites I suggest. Try for Row 8 which is first row of main Business cabin. Avoid Row 7 as no window.

Thanks, with row 6 blocked and row 7 no window, looks like I'll be turning right with hundreds of others stampeding past me to economy.

Like most people here I just want the best possible experience.

With row 8 being in front of the bulkhead, you still get that bit of extra room much like row 6. Just not the mini cabin experience.

The basinet proximity worries me, my luck it would be occupied by a Business Class screamer.

Emirates seems to do that on every flight - you can try calling Emirates and asking for the block to be removed, otherwise the block disappears closer to departure and you can select seats there for check-in if available. :)

Thanks, I will try both suggestions.

Having flown with EK often on the 777 as QF Plat (usually out of MEL) I have never had any luck with the Call Centre releasing the block, however 80% of the time when I have checked in early and asked at check in, they are happy to seat me in 6A or 6K and the couple of times where I was told row 6 wasn't available (but could see it was just blocked) a polite enqury upon entering the lounge worked the rest of the time.  Good Luck :)

I'll use the Lounge and my Southern Charm as the final last resort to 6A&B if all other methods fail. Thanks.

It's most probably like QANTAS - where the popular seats are reserved for flyers with high status. Do you have status with Emirates or QANTAS? I flew on a Emirates 777 the other day and had seat  8k. It showed up when I selected the seat using the QANTAS site - but I couldn't select 6A or 6K. I'm QANTAS platinum and I presume that opens up more slections. 8k was a good seat - but within the context that all business seats on an Emirates 777 are pretty average. Finally, I notice that more seats are avaialbe when I log into the QANTAS site and use the booking reference number than when I go to the Emirates site and use the same booking number.

row 6 held for elites as far as i have worked out - i love row 7 though (for that reason that it has no window) far better for sleeping and relaxing if you ask me - and as i generally travel with partner we love 7a and b - row 6 or 8 if available are great as more leg room but only generally available to normal people close to check in

Airlines typically block popular/preferred seat rows or sections within a cabin class due to:

1.  For Elite /Highest ranking FFP members.

2.  For pax traveling under hi-priority corp/gov't accounts or contracts.

3.  For pax paying the highest fare classes/codes available for sale in that cabin.

4.  VIP employees of that airline or its partner.

If U belong to none of the above, seat selection tend to be more limited.
