By VF, do you mean 'Velocity'? If you're on the Gold Coast, just take a one-way Business class trip to Melbourne. That's 80SC for less than $500.

Wait, no, that's 60SC. Should be easy to make up the remaining 20SC from there though.

VF is actually Valuair, which is the Jetstar aligned carrier based in Singapore servicing Indonesia.

OOL-SYD is 423 miles, so on both Qantas and Virgin that'd be 40 SCs is each respective program, so OOL-SYD-OOL would be sufficient.

If he's talking Qantas (QF) I'd suggest an Any Seat award if he has the points.

If he's talking Velocity, the OOL-SYD return in J would be sufficient, or a few trips across the Tasman (15 - 20 SCs in economy), or to Perth (20 SCs in economy).

He could also do OOL-SYD-MEL (for 80 SCs) on Virgin for $545.

OOL-SYD-MEL and OOL-MEL are the same for SC earn. Virgin don't look at trips as sectors for SC calculation, just the start and end point.
