I know you can't use q bag tags internationally but Would the q bag tags be able to just sit on the bag, or would that interfere with bag technology in overseas airports?

I have been advised by the QANTAS check-in staff to remove the tag when going overseas. They say that the tag can interfere. I generally fly with Emirates on a QF code-share, but I would assume the same thing applies even if you are flying with QF. So, nowadays, I remove the tag.

errrrr, that makes them pretty useless as you still have to attach another ID tag. Not sure that this makes sense to me as other o/s airlines dont use this technology to my knowledge anyway. So why remove them????

It's likely Qantas staff being overly cautious, but if you're willing to go against airline employee advice and risk a lost bag I guess that's your call.

I've been flying internationally since the tags came out (maybe 7 or 8 years ago). I've made over 50 overseas  trips involving 100-150 individual flights to overseas destinations with a range of airlines. I've lost the tags  (ripped off the bags), but had no problems losing bags per se. I wouldn't worry about this if I were you.

Agree with other comments, I've never taken mine off (nor have I been asked to take them off by QF or other airline staff). Never lost a bag because of the tags.

Same as the earlier commenters - I leave mine on my bag purely so I can narrow it down amongst the other 300 black roller bags.

My tag though has had a hard life and has no rubber ring left around the outside. Not sure that those conveyor belts of BH bots do but they are seriously brutal on luggage!

I never take mine off either and have never had a problem. No one has ever suggested that I remove it.

I've never taken them off and never been asked to do so either and I've had them since the start. On a side note, has anyone try to rip them off a bag, impossible right? I thought so. But an American Airlines handler managed to do so with my CL tag recently. Just the "knot" is left.

Was that just a subtle way to tell everyone you have CL access?

I always keep mine on, they are very strong.....on the back I only write on the international phone number i.e. +61 etc....and use normal luggage tags.

works very well....particularly when travelling internally in USA.......I received very polite call from Dept of Homeland security whilst travelling NYC to DC, asking to confirm this bag was mine.

Lo and behold, it was presented to me at luggage collection. Saved a heap of time waiting.

Left my Q tag on the bag when checking in with Thai Airways.

When I arrived in Bangkok my bag was nowhere to be seen. Baggage services then informed me that it missed the flight due to ‘belt issues’?
Just wondering if the auto scanners got confused by reading both the Q tag & the Thai Airways tag simultaneously?
