Just wonder has anyone done this before? I've getting rid of my Platinum One (3600SC includes 2700 on QF) in favour of Platinum (1200SC) and I'm seeking to get another OW Emerald thru status match.

Can anyone recommends best OW frequent flyer program to match to?

Poll: Which oneworld frequent flyer program to match from Qantas Frequent Flyer?

1) What's the point to status match with other OW carriers? You'll get Emerald anyway with QFF Platinum. With Aadvantage downgrading their programme, it's all much of a muchness with the rest.

2) It's not really possible - OW carriers don't status match within the alliance (happy to be corrected)

3) Depending on your travel pattern, I'd match with Star Alliance carriers or Etihad if you mainly fly internationally or with Virhin Australia if you fly mostly domestic. Key: Can you retain in subsequent years once you match? Some people find the one year thing novel. For me it's unsatisfactory. For me if you swap/status match then you plan to stick, otherwise the admin hassle is not worth it.

Either way, glad you came to the sane realisation of the ridiculousness of achieving & maintaining P1 status.

P.S: If you want to totally go rogue then there are some benefits in abandoning QFF altogether for another OW programme.

I've got Airpoints Elite Priority One (NZ) and Velocity Gold as well, so other program that worth to match to?

I'm not well versed on Sky Team but that seems to be your weak spot. Perhaps Korean?

How about a non-alliance airline. Alaska would be a good choice, as they have loads of  partners to earn and redeem travel on including, Qf, JAL, emirates and CX. Alaska also has a great milage based earn rate on all its self and it's partners and the company looks set to be stable after its merger for a while at least. It could also cover american based travel as alaska and virgin cover most of the routes.

Air Berlin (AB). They partner with both QF and VA so you'd get elite goodies in both airlines.

As a previous commenter mentioned, if you want to go rouge you could try SkyTeam to round out the holy trinity of aviation. I would suggest Delta (DL) as you'd get goodies with VA.

Doesnt AB (air Berlin)  have a German language only redemption call centre ?

Yeah, AB do have a German only call centre, also, you can't redeem first class from topbonus despite the fact they partners with lots of airline with first class.

I've got a Mileage Plan and take advantage of their miles sale to buy cheap CX J tickets. Since Mileage Plan has different rate for each airline, the redemption rate on Emirates wasn't good (225000 for F one way from US to Australia), however, the redemption rate on CX is very good (80000 for F one way from US to Australia)
