Hi..

Due to an equipment change SQ has placed me on SQ237 (Sin - Melb) in 1st Class.  Has anybody had any experience on what the catering is like?  I have been told its a supper flight and catering is kept to an absolute minimum and breakfast is basically coffee, juice and a Danish.

Catering will have two options but they don't promote that....there's squally small print on the menu that refers...  But you can ask the crew for a light supper AND the breakfast.   It's cost saving, because most people never ate the two meals previously.  But of course SQ position it as "giving you more rest time."     Breakfast should  be full hot breakfast and you can still order from "book the cook" menu on their website (Google is your friend) and simply ask them to serve at breakfast time.

However, if the flight time is not to your liking, simply call them and tell them so due to the equipment change and firmly ask that as a First Class pax, that they need to give you another option.  If you get the India or Philippines call centre and the result is still no good, then call the Melbourne ticketing office directly, or visit them.

Of course, if you're flying during supper, do BTC up to 24 hours prior to your flight.

Thanks Flyingvisit, I did not think about doing a BTC and requesting it for breakfast from the crew.  I previously tried calling Melb and my PPS coordinator who both assured me that the flights on the day that I wanted are completely full.  I have read from some other travel blogs that if SQ wants to remain a premium airline that the catering quality and availability needs to improve and reflect the premium status in all classes and when all said and done if an airline charges top $$ for flights no matter what the time of the flight that the catering should reflect the cost of the ticket, airline and class flown.

Thanks again, Taylor

I did the reverse of this flight (MEL-SIN midnight supper service) in paid First and remember thinking what a waste of money: supper was really poor. IIRC there were 2 options, the only one approximating a main was lobster noodles. All the regular trappings of an F meal were missing. Rebook if you can... if not then definitely book the cook, but be prepared for the rest of the meal to be pretty meager.

For any one who reads this discussion in the future on SQ 237 in 1st this was the supper menu which also included the normal range of champagnes, wines, cocktails etc...

Whilst I think the offering is poor for 1st class with SQ, out of the 8 passengers I was the only one that had anything to eat and drink (apart from welcome champagne, water and tea and coffee).  The crew was saying due to Aus bio security laws all food/plants etc are disposed, nothing is kept/saved.

So, whilst I thought the offering was poor I do understand from my experience the waste aspect.

Seared lamb chop
