Incorrect Kris Flyer number applied to my boarding pass

Hi all, I had an interesting experience flying SQ Syd-Sin this week. I checked in on my Y class booking and was handed a J class boarding pass..not bad eh? . WRONG ! During my flight I purchased some duty free and was informed that my PPS membership discount had been applied.(Im KF Gold not PPS)  Later I checked my boarding pass to discover that someone else PPS Club number hd been recorded on my trip..I wasn't that concerned until I tried to check into my return flight (today) to discover that it had been cancelled due to my 'no show' on the outbound Syd- Sin leg. So whilst the J class upgrade was most welcomed I guess karma got me as I have struggled to get my original flight reinstated..so if anyone was flying Syd- Sin on Monday July 11th as is missing some PPS points I don't have them ! Has this happened to anyone else and more importantly how does this happen ?? (predictably SQ have retreated behind a wall of ' don't know' ) ...

Do you still have the outbound boarding pass? Singapore Airlines boarding passes have the E-Ticket number printed on the boarding pass so you should be able to figure out what happened to your ticket by getting someone to look that up. You may also be able to prove via passport stamps or something like that.


It sounds as if there was someone traveling with a similar name and maybe that's why its happened?

Yes , I actually did check the e ticket number against my confirmed reservation and it was a different number. I suspect someone with a similar name was travelling on a later flight perhaps. Not sure how that can happen though given that your passport is machine read upon check in ..SQ have ended up rebooking me on a later (worse ) flight and I've lost my preferred seat..not great service form an otherwise service minded airline..

At least you've got home and didn't have to fork out anymore. I've heard of stories on Swiss Airlines where a boarding pass hasn't been scanned on the outbound flight which has in turn canceled the return flight. The passengers have then been forced into buying a second ticket to get home and when they later contacted the Swiss customer service team didn't get much help or a refund.


As for the machine read passport, well that only really helps on flights with APIS data or Visa Requirements. I'm able to book flights between Australia and Singapore (and a few other countries where Visas aren't required for Australians) without entering any passport info or my date of birth. As a result, that information is only updated onto the booking at check-in when the passport is first scanned at check in.

What's happened is you've flown on someone else's ticket and it's extremely rare for this to happen. They've got to have the same name, be booked on the same flight, have no existing passport or date of birth information in the booking and you've got to have shown up before them or them not show up at all for you to be able to take their seat.

 Hi henrus, you are almost spot on. there was a person travelling on the next flight with the same name and they thought I was him asking to be moved up to the earlier flight. Fortunately they realised the error some hours later and my namesake was not inconvenienced at all.

Unbelievably an SQ staffer met me at the gate as I disembarked from my return leg this morning at about 05.45 to explain and apologise in person. How's that for service...!! All is well.
