Expiry of the AMEX Express Path benefit at Sydney Airport

Happened to receive an email from American Express this morning say that the Express Path benefit at Sydney International Airport for Platinum card holders is expiring on 31 July 2017.

First I've heard of this, anyone have any further info?

It was always the case that it could expire on 31 July 2017 (unless they extended it - which they clearly haven't)

Does anyone think there could be a chance of other loyalty groups, (a hotel chain's platinum members, Westpac/ANZ/NAB Black Card holders etc.) offering to fill the void left by American Express?

With the new RBA rules taking the spotlight of points earn via credit cards, I was kind of optimistically hoping one group may take the chance to add other benefits.

Good point, that American Express could do it cause they were already invested in the airport. I've noticed HSBC are involved with a lot of airports? Macquarie Bank gives you free Hilton Gold status as long as you have their Hilton card.

I think you're right that the big two airlines probably wouldn't give up Platinum or Gold status, (as was rumored to be a benefit afforded to Centurion card holders), but I reckon there's an opportunity for banks/groups who are willing to think outside the square.

I thought the Platinum card only offered Delta and Virgin Australia lounge memberships. If I knew it included lounge memberships with DL, VA and QF I'd feel a little bad about winging about the $1,200 annual fee.
