I'm trying to book a jaunt to Havana, Cuba for early 2018. Since I'll be in Europe then, I was hoping to use either AirBerlin (Dusseldorf), Iberia (Madrid) or Finnair (Helsinki) to book as a classic reward through Qantas. But the Qantas website for some reason doesn't even have Havana Airport listed or searchable! Anyone with any Cuba experience?

Might be a better option out there, but can get close by: 1/Go to www.qantas.com, 2/Select country as 'Germany' (at top), 3/Search Dusseldorf to Cancun (Mexico), but click on 'Use points' option and finally 4/buy a cheap separate ticket Cancun/Havana/Cancun on Aeromexico. Good luck :)

Just found that you can also go to www.qantas.com and then select the 'Spain' page to look for Iberia flights Madrid/Panama City return. From Panama City you can easily fly to Havana with www.copaair.com/en/web/gs, but imagine that this will be more expensive than the Cancun option. We are also flying to Havana via Cancun early next year. I am sure that when I telephoned Qantas to ask about using points to Havana, they were unable to assist. Be sure to avoid US to Havana options due to possible Trump changes - see https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Programs/Documents/cuba_faqs_20170725.pdf

For flights to certain destinations (eg. Cuba), Classic Reward even cost more than some cash fares.

Havana can be reached with bunch of direct flights from European destinations or a stop in US or Canada, if you insist taking a separate booking connecting flights on JetBlue, Southwest or Westjet.

¡buen viaje!

Not every city is available on Qantas.com. One notable exception is trying to book a trip from DOH - doesn't exist (can book a flight to DOH). I have also previously used Qantas Classic award to book MIA to MGA return on AA. MGA was not searchable on Qantas, so I needed to ring them. They waived the fees because I couldn't do this online... but this is not necessarily always the case (depends on the operator).

Cuba is a fun place. I got there using Copa from Panama. Enjoy

On the subject of Havana, does anyone have any good hotel recommendations there? The Kempinski seems far and away the best, but with prices to match. Has anyone tried The Iberoparque or the Nacional?
