Given the number of 787's flying around the world these days, sorry but Qantas finally getting a few is hardly earth shattering news.

I'm looking forward to it being delivered so we can start talking about something else other than a 10 year old model plane.

And here we have fresh pics of the freshly-painted Qantas Boeing 787-9, ahead of its flight program and handover to Qantas...

Exactly, this has been my thinking. From all the PR and fuss about this, you'd think QF is getting the first ever 787 and the only airline doing ultra LH. I mean come on, JQ has been flying them for years. Yes, it's nice to see some new mettle in the flying kangaroo livery, but not that big a deal. Kudos to QFs PR team, they're doing an outstanding job.

A close media friend is onboard. Stopover in HNL is to allow the journos to sober up. Apparently these trips get wild!

I can assure you this is not the case: yes, we enjoy the delivery flights; yes, they're fun; and yes, there was some disco dancing on the RetroRoo delivery flight (!) – but they're also very much working flights with interviews, photos, video, writing etc.

The very first Qantas A380 delivery flight... well, that was another story... :P

I'm picturing Sir David, a few bloody marys deep, sizing up the stairs on the 380, working out in his head whether he should catch a nap in the first seats, or try and master the stairs to get back up to the lounge

I wasn't on the QF A380 delivery flight – was still a technology journo/editor at the time, wasn't yet writing about business travel – but I hear stories from those who were on the flight...

Will these aircraft have WiFi ? Just wondering whether we can expect any live tweeting/blogging during the flight ....

Does anyone in these delivery programs get a preview and experience to sleep in the crews' quarters?

Maybe for an hour or so?

Did the Boeing factory tour today and saw no Skippies on tails :(

How long does the Tour take? I'm thinking of going in Oct, but haven't booked it yet.

No they won't, so alas, no live updates from us during the flight...

Yes, but at the moment the whole domestic 787-9 schedule is still being finalised (references which have run on other websites are based on tentative schedules that are very much subject to change). Once it's as locked-in as QF can get it, we'll cover all the details here.
