Qantas is never on my list of international carriers, and in June 2017 only carried 16.2 per cent - less than a sixth - of passengers to and from Australia in total (international flights) with Jetstar carrying a further 9.3 per cent. Â So almost three in every four passengers choose a non-QF group airline (although some of the 8.4 per cent of total passengers Emirates carried would be on a QF codeshare ticket.)Â
They're news because it's a new aircraft for the fleet, it's the future of Qantas for both international and domestic flights and it's also the future for longer-range flights such as Perth-London and no doubt some other Perth-Europe route along with other new routes. I think the issue is that the QF 787 has consumed Ausbt for a couple of years. First the rumours, then the confirmation, then the livery, then the seating, then speculation about the routes, then speculation about the delivery date, then speculation about how many planes will be based in Brisbane + the list never ends.

* we didn't report on QF 787 'rumours' as stand-alone stories
* of course we'd report when the aircraft were confirmed, as any respectable media in this field would do
* we didn't report on the livery (because we no longer cover livery, safety videos etc)
* of course we'd report on the seating, which is core to the experience and which we did in greater detail than any other publication, which our readers appreciated and were the most widely-read stories of that month
* of course we'd report on routes, this is what having aircraft is all about (ya gotta fly 'em somewhere)
* we didn't run stories of speculation on the delivery date
* we didn't run any story on the Boeing 787s being based in Brisbane
There are other QF787 stories we haven't run (eg rolling out of the paintshop, as that's very aviation/avgeek) and there are stories on which we've been the only publication to really cover (eg shared lavs between business class and premium economy, as that's very relevant to the premium passenger experience and that's what AusBT is all about)
In short, the Qantas 787 has far from 'consumed' AusBT coverage, and the coverage that has been presented is entirely relevant to our readers.
As long as you’re towards the pointy end it should be nice. The dreaded 3-3-3 in steerage that most airlines opt for definitely makes it the Screamliner as opposed to the Dreamliner.

[/QUOTE] I think AusBT has been very measured in its coverage of the Qantas Boeing 787, only reporting what really matters, if you want 'over the top' check out AirlineRatings which treats every Qantas press release as if it's Big News and can't get enough of the breathless prose. At least AusBT 'filters' the nonsense from the news, so to speak, and has called Qantas out on issues such as it's claimed 'revolutionary' 787 premium economy seat and the already-mentioned shared WCs in business class.
A wee update: according to the latest schedule, QF7879 is estimated to land at Sydney at 7.10am (and pull into Hangar 96 for the welcome event around 7.45am).
Do I recall correctly the 787 competition is due to be drawn/announced today?
Yes, we were just waiting for the winners whose names were drawn to all confirm their attendance – that was sorted late yesterday afternoon, so we'll be in a position to share them today. :)

Yes, we were just waiting for the winners whose names were drawn to all confirm their attendance – that was sorted late yesterday afternoon, so we'll be in a position to share them today. :)

Especially if it's a Boeing where jet lag, even on a 787, is more evident than an A380/A350.
