Hi guys. This is my first post. I have been a fan of this site for a long time and have just signed up so I apologise in advance if this particular question does not belong here. Here goes:

I am on the JQ025 from MEL to Cairns tomorrow morning at 8:25. As this flight was not booked by myself, I have since found out that it departs from the International Terminal. The question is, do I need my passport or will my drivers license suffice?

Thanks.

Just need your driver's license. Your ticket will be marked domestic so no duty free shopping for you.

Drivers license will be fine. Just make sure you're there a little earlier to check in as it closes earlier but enjoy the Dreamliner (screen, powerpoint and additional legroom is a treat on a JQ domestic flight).

Damn! Could I be sneaky and get someone else to buy something for me?

As an Aviation nut i've been looking forward to the dreamliner experience, I hope Jetstars 788s were built in Seattle. I have an additional legroom seat too!

Note that as you'll be departing from the international terminal, the standard 'international' liquid rules apply (max. 100mL per container in one clear bag).

As you will be passing outgoing and incoming Au immi and customs procedures, if someone buys duty free for you, ie, they pay with their card, and the item is stapled, but you are the one bring it in, you are hereby having not paid duty/gst, you will be nabbed when you bring the items into Aust, in CNS.
Not so bad if you can prove you will be taking said items out of Aust, from CNS in the next few days, but if you don't have proof that you will take the items out, you probably have to pay duty/gst when you "import" the item/s.
I might be talking bullpoo here, but if you want to try, thats up to you.
You will be an orange sticker "D" on your boarding pass, so you will have to surrender that when you arrive into CNS int airport.
That with "your" duty free items, think about it, what will customs deduce?
Personally I would not do it.

Probably too late for the OP, but read under Reminder, bottom right hand side if he/she gets to read this before flight.
Does not say what happens, but its there.
