VH-ZND Qantas' 4th Dreamliner arrived into Alice Springs this morning and the fleet now is ready to do the Melbourne - Perth - London. David and Chris I am assuming one of you will be on the first London flight.

From https://www.ausbt.com.au/community/view/59/6839/delivery-flight-of-singapore-airlines-first-boeing-787-10-march-26-28 To quote David: "For example, Sid Raja is doing the Qantas Perth-London Boeing 787 inaugural because both Chris and myself have done Qantas Boeing 787 trips, so it's good to get a different perspective (it also clashes with the SQ trip..." but I am looking forward to what Sid has to say...

VH-ZND has a special colour scheme doesn't it?

Yes it does. Should be a great sight to see. Flew direct into Alice Springs.

David and MRYJDrake many thanks. Looking forward to reading Sid's review. I have a close pilot friend who has left Cathay Pacific and joined Qantas and will be flying the Perth London flight.

Here are some snaps of Qantas' newest Dreamliner in its suitably 'dreamtime' Indigenous art livery, based on the painting Yam Dreaming by late NT artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye (for whom the Boeing 787 is now named).

Just watched this bird on final approach to SYD from my office. Wow, truly stunning. It stands out even from a distance.

I wonder how immigration would work on this flight. Would Qantas have to fly up immigration workers?

For the delivery flight US-ASP? There would only have been 10-20 people on board, if that. Likely would have been handled like a private jet flight.

@Gaschom absolutely. I was lucky to see it from the car when I was driving. A great sight to see in the air.

I know no one would want to be in the economy cabin if they can be in business, or worse comes to worse, premium economy, but it would be ‘interesting’ to read an economy review for the PER-LON!

Let me start by saying the paint job is well done, and it’s always great to see a bird in something other than the “corporate colours”.

But, I have to ask, what is Qantas’ obsession with all things indigenous? I get they are trying to paint the image of being a good “corporate citizen” that “does the right thing”. However, this is nothing more than a hollow gesture. The sad irony is that the vast majority of indigenous Australians are priced out of ever getting a ticket on this beautiful plane.

Mark, ZND will be a showcase to the world. Initially, it will park at either LHR and LAX, and will be a talking point due to its striking design. It will hopefully inspire potential tourism to our great country. Ideally, it would be good if also inspires Australians to travel more in this great country.

Qantas make use of many Indigenous employment and recognition programs and have for some time. They are an airline of Australia, a country with an Indigenous people. I wouldn't consider that an 'obsession' by any measure. Frankly, it would be a positive thing to see other organisations in Australia pay as much attention to First Australians as Qantas. Don't confuse the responsibilities of an airline with a those of a Government.
