Word on the street is that we could see the return of domestic 747 services between SYD - PER (rumoured to commence once the HNL service is upgraded from A330 to 747). The freed up domestic A330 will then be used to run the PER - SIN leg!

Qantas 71/72 PER/SIN, now showing in system as a 332. Happy!

At the very least, we had 743s to both SYD and MEL not even 10 years ago. Was only a young fella back then so there could’ve been more!

We have also has QF 742, SP and itn more recent times 400’s doing it. Always a nice treat to get the Queen for a $199 red e deal east.

I hope they do bring the 747 back domestically for a bit.
It’s such an iconic plane that was the cornerstone of international travel for so many Australians.
A few laps domestically so as many people possible can say I traveled on a Qantas 747 would be great.

Booked QF71 for late September and it just changed to an A332! The price even dropped by $95 per person 1 day after I booked and paid - not happy about this!

Do Sydney and Perth airports have a gate that will take a 747? If so, which gates will they part at?

According to today's posts it will be 744 Sydney-Perth-Sydney and A330 Perth - Singapore- Perth. Why not operate both aircraft Sydney -Perth - Singapore return with one aircraft leaving Sydney in morning and other in evening? Say 744: leave Sydney 8am Perth arr 10.30 dep 11.30am Arr Singapore 5pm Dep Singapore 6.30pm Arr Perth 11.30pm Dep Perth 12.30pm Arr Sydney 6am A330: Leave Sydney 8pm Arr Perth 10.30pm Dep Perth 11.30pm Arr Singapore 5am Dep Singapore 6.30am Arr Perth 11.30am Dep Perth 12.30pm Arr Sydney 6.30pm These times are very rough based on approx flying time, quick turnaround in Perth, and using same aircraft each day. If aircraft were swapped with other 747s or A330s in Sydney or Singapore times could be altered! Just an idea but what do people think?

The bays (or bay in Perth’s case) with the double bridges will be able to connect up to both doors if i recall correctly, some single bridge gates here and there can also handle Code E aircraft such as the 747.

Aniljak, I believe the 747 in question already has other commitments ex Sydney. Not sure about the 330 though?

It is an aircraft registration... VH-OEB & VH-OJD. VH-OJD however has been retired for about five years now.
