Malaysia Airlines & Oman Air Business - What lounges can I use?

Hi All,


I'll be going from Sydney - KL (Malaysia airlines) then KL - Muscat - Milan (Oman Air) on business class for the first time in a few weeks. Just wondering, what lounges do I have access to in Sydney, KL and Muscat? What time can I check in from Sydney? First time on business for myself and my partner. Any tips?

Checkin generally 3hrs before.


MH J will give access to the Qantas International Business lounge.
In KL it appears Oman Air use the MH lounge which has just been refurbished (from a 2017 review).
And in Muscat you will get access to the brand new Oman Air lounge.

On return if same route, I assume Oman will give you a pass to a third party lounge in Milan (generally not that great), then the same lounges in Muscat and KL

Thank you. I've been reading about being able to access the emirates lounge, but then some people were turned away. I'm sure the Qantas lounge is good.


Anyone done these flights? What are the planes like? Should I bring my own Noise cancelling earphones? Do they provide Pjs?

Malaysian airlines headphones are terrible, suggest bringing your own noise cancelling ones.

Theoretically you can use the EK lounge in SYD, which definitely has some advantages over the QF lounge: the wine and spirits are better (including actual champagne); the food spread is usually pretty impressive (though I don't know how good it is late in the evening prior to MH140, as the lounge is about to close); and on days when MH uses gates on the Star Alliance side of the airport it's much more conveniently located. I'm no great fan of the QF SYD lounge so am happy to have another option, even if just for the sake of variety.


I'm flying OmanAir SYD-KUL-MCT-ZRH in a few weeks time so I've been researching this. In KUL you should have access to both the Malaysia airlines 'satellite' business class lounge (which is larger, and intended for long haul flights) as well as the regional lounge which is in the part of the airport closer to passport control. As it's quite a long layover in KUL you might want to try both - apparently some of the Asian food options are better / more authentic in the regional lounge. In Muscat you'll have access to the very shiny new OmanAir business class lounge which looks pretty schmick. No idea about lounges in Milan, unfortunately.

I think that is WAY excessive, unless you particularly like getting to the airport early and/or get anxious. Checking in 2 hours prior for international when in business class is plenty of time in my experience. I also check in online whenever possible.

Thanks for you reply. I've also just been notified that on the way back my last leg (KL - SYD) my seat changed. I checked, and my plane has changed from an A330 to an A380. Is this a good or a bad thing? The photos make it look like its an older plane, but then I read an article about being able to ask for first class as you cannot normally book it?


Anyone have any idea about that?
