Hello! I've just rebooked a flight home from Europe and decided to try the second leg of my flight from Dubai with Qantas instead of Emirates so that I can try out the new partnership.

My question is: Will Qantas allow seat reservations to be done at the time of booking like Emirates do? I was able to choose an excellent A380 seat with Emirates and would like to do the same with Qantas, but I can't until 24 hours before the flight. Will this change? It seems to be a significant oversight if not...definitely an advantage for choosing Emirates over Qantas...all things being equal, of course.

Thanks!

Probably not unless you hold some form of QFF status bud, sorry!

The rule is: Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum, Gold and Silver Frequent Flyer Members will have access to the complimentary Advance Seat Selection when travelling on Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) operated flights. All customers will have access to Advance Seat Selection and Qantas advance seat selection policies and relevant fees will continue to apply on Qantas operated flights. Members must be booked and ticketed on Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) flight number.

So unless you have status (or equivalent OneWorld standing) it'll cost you $25!

If you are not a top tier elite in the Qantas FF program you will not be able to do so, unless you fly in First or Business (although, and I am not sure, you might be able to do so at a charge for economy). Are you a Gold in Skywards which makes you able to choose your seats at reservations with EK?

Its free for EK, or $25 for QF unless you are Silver or above.

Thanks everyone! Much appreciated. Qantas can go get stuffed if they think I'll pay $25 for a service that their global partner offers for free. I hope this changes otherwise I may as well stick with Emirates for my future European long-haul travel, after all it is the little things (at least for me) that win my loyalty. Hence why Lufthansa currently has a monopoly on my considerable European short-haul travel.

Thanks again.
