I’ve just done the maths on the impact of the Amex Reward changes on my transfers to Singapore Airlines Krisflier. While the transfer rate has halved, earn rates have risen.

After these changes come into effect I will be down about 19-23% in Krisflier value per transfer (month on month).

That combined with the recent SQ award rate increase is a bitter pill to swallow.

Keen to know if others have worked out how the Amex changes will impact their preferred airline transfers.

Sounds like you are on Gateway. I'm on ascent so my transfer rate is down by 50%. Impossible to swallow so I'm cancelling the cards after I transferred all my points out.

My prediction is that Amex may come up with some really good sign up bonuses (just like how after Citi devalued their points, now they are offering huge sign up bonuses) so it might be better that we cancel and wait for 18 months. Amex phone agent even encouraged me to do that.

Agreed daft009, sadly seems like the management at Amex know it too and hence decided to devalue membership for the sake of their profits. Reminds me of the way the banks treat their customers, clearly a new direction for Amex.
