Haven't flown Etihad for a while as they no longer service Perth, however have recently done a dummy booking on AA for a trip SIN-LHR which came up easily (in September so school break time). Also made a multi-stop booking for next March SIN-AUH-MAD-LIS-xMAD-FCO-DOH-SIN again using AA points and a combination of EY, IB and QR. As with most, the hardest part is getting in and out of Perth.

I have not tried this, so it's just a thought bubble. How about Australia to Santiago on Qantas or Latam, then to London on British or Madrid on Iberia, then cheap flights in Europe to your chosen destinations?

Being Platinum you can call the QFF membership enquiries number and ask for assistance with booking a classic reward flight, this worked for me. Be patient and flexible and you might jag some flights. The Customer Service Rep can request flights to be released, this is what can take the time, and reserve them for you if available. They also have the advantage of being able to scout for available OW reward seats that are released but perhaps not visible to you.

Thank you so much for your very useful comments. It looks like there are a number of options that I can try. I will report back when I get some success!

I was lucky enough to secure 2 seats, Brisbane to Hong Kong in Qantas J, HKG to Zurich in Cathay First and returning on Emirates First from Amsterdam. All with points... and $1500 in taxes and fuel etc!

Planning European trip with Qantas points, where are the Emirates business or first award seats?
