David Jones' Storecard now earns Qantas Frequent Flyer points

Qantas has added David Jones' Storecard to its expanding roster of frequent flyer partners.

The up-market department store's customer card has previously offered only 'soft rewards' such as access to special shopping nights and free gift wrapping, but from today the Storecard will also earn reward points which can be traded into Qantas Frequent Flyer points or David Jones gift cards.

The base rate is 1 DJs reward point per dollar spent at a David Jones store.

There's a 1:1 conversion rate for turning your points into a gift card, but the conversion rate for Qantas Frequent Flyer points is a more modest 0.5.

Last year saw the launch of the David Jones American Express card, which also earns Qantas points but offers a slightly higher conversion rate of 0.75 (so that 1 Amex Reward Point becomes 0.75 Qantas Frequent Flyer points).

David Jones already counts several airlines among its partners, among then Virgin Australia, Air New Zealand, Cathy Pacific and Singapore Airlines.

If I use a Credit Card also linked to my QF FF account, will I get the points from the Credit Card & the DJs Storecard?

Same question applies to other shopping programs like Woolworths Everyday Rewards

Thanks

Pardon my ignorance.

What's a store card and what role does Amex play in this? Is it like a charge card?

The David Jones Store Card is essentially just a charge card which you can only use at David Jones. As you can only pay it off using cash, eftpos or bpay, it's pretty useless for earning points when you can just use a credit card which earns points at a higher rate.

This is unlike other shopping loyalty programmes such as Woolworths' Everyday Rewards where points are earned on top of those earned when using an applicable credit card.

Thanks ABT for your valuable reporting and insights.   Just a suggestion on DJ Amex Card - the QFF points will only be rewarded IF you select QFF when you appy for DJ Amex Card.  DJ Amex will not retrospectively transfer QFF points but will do so for other airlines.  Be interested to know why QFF members are disadvantaged with this scheme.   Cheers
