Delta adds connecting flight to Silicon Valley's San Jose airport

Delta is offering new connecting flights between Los Angeles LAX and Silicon Valley's local airport, San Jose in California.

The airline is the second Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer partner to announce new San Jose flights (quickly dubbed a "nerd bird" tech sector route) this week, following hard on the heels of Virgin America opening bookings for its own flights from Los Angeles.

Virgin America certainly has the edge in terms of comfort with its swish Airbus A320 planes, though — Delta's flights will use tiny 65-seater Bombardier CRJ-700 seats, which are as unpopular as they are cramped. Both flights, however, will have wifi Internet onboard.

Starting June 10, Delta will have four daily roundtrips on the route, which runs 1h15 in each direction.

From LAX, flights will depart at 0830, 1210, 1630 and 1945.

To connect to the first flight, you should just about make it off the 0645 Delta DL16 arrival from Sydney. Although the 0605 Virgin Australia VA7 from Brisbane will be an easier transit, it'll be a much tighter squeeze off the 0750 arrival of VA23 from Melbourne.

From San Jose, your options are the 0645, 1020, 1400 or 1820 flights.

Those connect better to the 2250 Delta DL17 departure for Sydney than they do to the 2025 Virgin Australia VA2, but the 2255 VA8 to Brisbane and 2230 VA24 to Melbourne should work well.
