Emirates opens new business, first class lounge at Perth Airport

Emirates’ business and first class passengers plus eligible frequent flyers can now unwind or stay productive in a brand new Emirates lounge at Perth International Airport.
Built in a completely new space spanning 810 square metres and with seats for 165 guests, lounge lizards will also be able to board their Emirates flight directly from the lounge, as has been the case in Dubai and also Brisbane for some time:

That comes as a much-needed boost following Emirates’ launch of Airbus A380 services between Perth and Dubai with 90 business class and first class seats filling the superjumbo’s upper deck and a handful of frequent flyers travelling downstairs in economy also eligible for lounge access.
As we’ve seen in Emirates’ other new-design lounges including Los Angeles and Rome, Italian leather armchairs join walnut wood finishes to create an upmarket space and a relaxing vibe…
… with some plant life mixed in for added colour and privacy:
Larger groups are also catered for…
… while the rectangular lamps throughout the space act as beacons for the many power points:
Joining a prayer room and a dining room with a host of a la carte selections from the buffet, Emirates’ lounge also offers free WiFi and an open plan business centre...
… with touchscreen-operated Windows 8 workstations that can swivel to a five-degree incline for use as a true surface computer.
Showers and reading materials are of course available, with the lounge also featuring LED TVs, gold Rolex wall clocks and bespoke artwork of Dubai and Australian influence.
The following guests are welcome to visit the Emirates lounge:
- Business class and first class passengers of Qantas and Emirates
- Emirates Skywards Gold and Platinum frequent flyers prior to Emirates and Qantas flights with an EK or QF flight number
- Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold, Platinum and Platinum One prior to Qantas and Emirates flights with a QF or EK flight number (no access when flying Jetstar or other Oneworld airlines)
- Emirates Citibank World MasterCard customers using one of their complimentary lounge passes when flying with Emirates on an EK flight number only

The new lounge and departure area is really quite nice, spacious with high ceilings...problem is design...it almost feels like a separate terminal to the other international gates, gates which make me feel costraphobic and the stupid design of having to walk down stairs to hit the aeorbridges. I struggle with my carry on, let alone poor parents and/or disabled. They need to sort that bit out too.

If you struggle with your carry on, why are you using it? Yes the stairs aren't great but you choosing to use something you struggle with strikes me as odd as well.

Have you travelled through Perth before? I am a 36 yrs old healthy male and everyone has no choice but to walk down 3 flights of steps from the departure to the aerobridge (there is no doubt a lift in some obsecure place for those who need it). It's not a question of having a choice...unless instead of carry on bags i check them, but if I am within my limits on the plane why should i be forced to do that due to what is simply a poor design. I am a regular business traveller so always want to carry on and push my weight limits...it's simply a poor design and not up to global standards. If i was to contrast to some other australian airports - brisbane has aero bridges that a moveable dependent on if a departure or arrival is taking place...other airports escalators...it's not rocket science...its just Perth has historically done everything on the cheap which means a poorer user experience...it's time to improve

Reports suggest that the 'new' departure area of Perth Airport, which Emirates uses for its aircraft and to provide direct boarding from the lounge, no longer has these steps. Older gates would obviously be different, though.

Those God awful stairs, what a joke they are.Let me tell ya, there's no lift. I recently took my 84 year old Mum to Bali on a Jetstar flight and we had to struggle down the stiars and back up the stupid things when we retrurned. It's a disgrace...

Looks good.. Think the Qantas lounge will only be used for Jetstar flights by many, albeit with only QF111 to AKL its not like there is a lot of Qantas use.

Still no first class only section within the lounge, but thankfully the standard of Emirates lounges is high enough that you don't really need one.

Nope. You still have access to the Emirates business class lounges in Dubai though, provided you're travelling on a QF flight number.
However, if you book your Emirates flight from Perth as a Qantas codeshare (with a QF flight number), you could still visit the Qantas business class lounge in Perth, provided it's open when you visit.

Bummer, but yay! lol There's a lot of inequity with this whole Qantas/Emirates tie up. I wish with all my might they'll make it a bit more seamless with lounge access and upgrades etc...

Hi, does anyone know what the opening hours of the lounge are? Flying QF111 in J departing 18:40 at the end of this year and I'm not sure if this will be open.
