Final stretch for Virgin Australia

Final stretch for Virgin Australia

Virgin Australia is putting the finishing touches on its two-level domestic lounge at Sydney Airport’s T2 terminal, which will almost double the size of the former single-storey facility.

A second dedicated security lane will be added to the kerbside Premium Entry early next month to speed the check-in process for business class travellers and Velocity Platinum and Gold frequent flyers.

This has long been among of the best traits of Virgin's Sydney lounge, letting passengers bypass the queues on the terminal floor and zip straight from the kerb to the lounge.

But as regular VA flyers will attest, it's become increasingly busy over the past few years as Virgin's slice of the domestic business travel market has grown, so a second security lane will be welcome.

The Sydney lounge revamp has also added a much-needed second barista station on the ground level, in addition to the original coffee station at the bar plus the newer one upstairs.

Up next for Virgin Australia’s growing lounge network will be a new regional lounge for Cairns, which is expected to open in October.

Iv really like the layout of the new lounge. The nooks and cranys make it easy to feel like you are in a smaller more intimate lounge. I like sitting on the second floor watching the ground operations while I wait. The second security lane will be welcome as well. All in all a great lounge.

like the lounge however still dont like the way Virgin close the upstairs duringt the weekend, the only time I would get to enjoy the views and relax in a lounge, during the week im only in the lounge to grab a quick coffee, check some mails and then im off again.

I was there yesterday around sunset and like it a lot more than I did on my previous trip a few months ago. The downstairs section is a good size now, well laid out, lots of light. The food offerings are improved too, with fried rice and party pies now on offer. I still wish there were something sweet apart from tiny cookies though.

Not sure why the upstairs section wasn't open yesterday; I assumed it was still under renovation but this article seems to imply it isn't?

I think they capacity manage the upstairs section and have it closed in non peak periods.

The Virgin SYD Premium Entry is a great thing, and much reduces travel stress. I just wish we were so lucky at MEL, but it's just not a possibility (it really was a fluke that it was able to happen at SYD, due to the existing location of the lounge and layout of the airport).
