First look: Singapore Airlines' new SilverKris lounge, Brisbane Airport

Singapore Airlines' new SilverKris lounge at Brisbane Airport welcomes its first passengers next week, but not before Australian Business Traveller dropped by for a first look.

As you enter, the first thing that pops out is a modern take on SQ's 'Signature Screen', a printed glass artwork that sets the tone for the whole lounge, being slightly modern yet somewhat traditional.

You'll then emerge into the main lounge space which offers plenty of natural light during the day, tarmac views from many of the zones and seating for 80 guests:

We'll start, however, at the business pods which line the walls on the far left, allowing you to either plug in and work on the table like a traditional desk or swing around and face outwards with a refreshment balanced there instead:

Those are flanked by an array of seats also suited to solo travellers, but which could comfortably accommodate couples, colleagues and small families...

... and if you look for the shelves with the lamps atop...

... you'll find both AC and USB power points to recharge your devices.

Also nearby are a duo of high-backed chairs – nay, thrones – which overlook the whole lounge and prove incredibly comfortable...

... next to a dedicated dining area, which we're pleased to see after observing its absence in SQ's current Brisbane SilverKris lounge last year.

The space offers high ceilings throughout, but rather than installing a custom ceiling and blocking out the natural light from above, SQ has opted for a stylish 'space frame' to bridge the gap...

... made of powder-coated solid steel with glass elements and additional lights to break things up:

Tucked away behind reception is another space nicknamed 'The Gallery'. It's easy to overlook, and designedly so, as it can be cordoned off for VIP travellers and their entourages or large families hoping for some extra privacy...

... but if there's no rope across the entrance, it's a great place for any guest to escape the lounge proper while watching TV, reading a good book or a newspaper or magazine supplied in the lounge:

Not forgotten is the buffet zone, housed in a central nook...

... separated by glass displays which double as serving stations for plates and cutlery...

... and with tasty fare as you'd find in the current SilverKris lounge, including scrumptious satay sticks and chicken and leek pies:

A new automated coffee machine replaces the previous Nespresso pods, cranking out lattes almost as good as those hand-poured...

... while two private shower suites let you freshen up before your journey to Singapore and beyond:

Passengers on flight SQ246 on Tuesday May 24 will be the first to experience the new lounge in full swing, which you'll find to your right after clearing passport control and up the new lounge escalator near the Air New Zealand and Plaza Premium lounges:

Eligible guests from the following list can also stop by from Tuesday evening, with the lounge opening roughly three hours prior to every Singapore Airlines flight:

  • Business class passengers of Singapore Airlines, Air Canada (from June), Air New Zealand, Thai Airways and EVA Air
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold, PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club before Singapore Airlines and Star Alliance flights
  • Other Star Alliance Gold frequent flyers plus United Club and Air Canada Maple Leaf Club members travelling with a Star Alliance airline
  • Virgin Australia Velocity Gold and Platinum members plus Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold cardholders prior to Singapore Airlines flights only

Flying through Brisbane before Tuesday night? You'll still be directed to SQ's old SilverKris lounge near the terminal's duty-free area – but once the new lounge opens, that previous space will permanently close.

You would fit in well in the virgin lounges.

I presume you mean the Virgin Atlantic ones, right? I'd love to visit them but that's unlikely to happen before next year and even then it may not occur.

Looks decent! Really interesting to see how the lounge battles between legacy carriers across the world is heating up and unfolding. But from my point of view, SQ has a design something which seems to age very quickly in just two or three years, or dare I say, already looks aging? I think Lufthansa, BA, Plaza, Qantas and Cathay has got the motif right.

Hi, Will I have access to this lounge when flying AC 36 Bne-Yvr in PE?

I have bought a lounge pass offered on the AC website when I purchased my ticket

Is this my only option for lounges in Bne flying in Y+ with lounge pass?   I have no other status with Star Alliance.  Thanks.

Your lounge pass isn't valid here as it's not within the Star Alliance rules: you'll instead need to visit Brisbane's new Air New Zealand lounge. :)
