Hertz adds simpler toll payment option for Victoria car rentals

IN BRIEF | Rental car company Hertz is making it easier for business travellers to sort out paying tolls when driving in Victoria.

That means faster trips, since you can use the CityLink tollway, plus other toll roads.

It also means no more nasty surprises when you get home to discover a fine awaiting you for driving on one of Melbourne's toll roads by mistake, plus an administration fee from the rental car company.

The system is called Roam Express Rental e-Pass, and lets you pre-register your details to pay tolls automatically by credit card.

It's the same type of system that launched last year in New South Wales, and is being run in partnership with Transurban/Roam Express, the toll road operator.

The Rental ePass costs $2.75 per rental once you travel on a toll road, and you'll pay all the tolls plus a 75c "video matching fee" each time you pass a toll gate or tolling point.

Hertz's #1 Club Gold loyalty program members will be automatically re-enrolled in the Rental ePass program unless they email Hertz to opt-out.

Full details can be found on Hertz's page about the system.
