Jetstar starts direct Melbourne to Singapore service

Jetstar is set to start flying a daily direct service between Melbourne and Singapore from December 16.

The daily A330-200 service will leave Melbourne at noon and arrive into Singapore at 4:50pm, with the return redeye flight leaving Singapore at 8:50 pm to touchdown in Melbourne at 6:30am.

Jetstar will offer 38 seats in its StarClass premium cabin for business travellers, which also gives access to the Qantas Club at both ends of the flight, along with priority check-in.

Passengers for destinations beyond Singapore can travel on Qantas code-share services.

However, in order to service the new route Jetstar will cut its current twice-a-day Darwin to Singapore run back to just one daily flight.

Singapore is just one of three new international destination added to Jetstar’s Melbourne roster.

On December 13 the company begins daily flights to Auckland, while December 16 sees a twice-weekly service to Queenstown in New Zealand’s South Island.

The Melbourne-Auckland route is already serviced by Air New Zealand, Qantas, Pacific Blue and Emirates, who collectively offer seven flights a day.

Jetstar says the direct Singapore and Auckland flights are the first step in plans to offer more flights to North Asia and Europe.
