Malaysia Airlines: new business class on all Aussie A330 flights by September

Malaysia Airlines will offer its new fully-flat business class seats on every Airbus A330 flight to Australia from mid-September, replacing the old ‘sloping sleepers’ of yesteryear.

Already flying to Sydney and Melbourne, Adelaide residents will be next to experience the new business class product: appearing on all flights from August 21 2016, a spokesperson for the airline confirmed to Australian Business Traveller.

Perth will follow suit when its own Kuala Lumpur-bound flights are upgraded from September 10 as the next of Malaysia’s A330s are refitted, with the entirety of the airline’s A330 fleet due to be revamped by mid-January next year.

AusBT review: Malaysia Airlines' new A330 business class, KL-Sydney

Between September and January, Malaysia Airlines aims to reserve its non-refurbished A330 aircraft for other, non-Australian destinations within its network: only bringing one Down Under where absolutely necessary.

Also new for business class travellers, freshly-refurbished domestic and regional lounges at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by the year’s end, followed by new international business class and first class lounges at KLIA and a new London Heathrow lounge next year.

All Malaysia Airlines flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide are served by its Airbus A330s, while flights between Darwin and Kuala Lumpur and between Perth and Kota Kinabalu use the smaller Boeing 737 jets with reclining seats in business class.

I know it's all about business here on Aus BT, but would you know if the entire plane would be set out for a refurb? At least be cleaner at the back?

Not something I can really help with, so will leave this for others to answer.

Thanks!

Matt,

I doubt very much. You are right...it does get very grimy at the back.

Been flying them in Economy and Business a fair bit last year and earlier this year. I've decided I've had enough. Everything about the experience is woeful; even the first class lounge is a dissapointment, when compared with what's out there (Pitch higher MH, you're not a carrier of a third world nation).

And lastly, if my plane crashes and I die, I'd like to know that investigations will be performed sincerely, with the objective to understand the causes and to learn from the mistakes. I get it, shit happens - if you're meant to die, you're meant to die. But this whole cover your arse business with MH370 is not on.

Taken holistically, whatever savings you make flying MH is not worth it.

I honestly have no care in the world if one crashes again. It was just bad luck, twice!

But on another front, I've read elsewere that to secure a Points flight with MAS, it costs more (to redeem) but you earn less! They're a mess of an airline and when I flew them this time last year, yes in Economy (comparing it to AF Business on the same leg) the MAS flight was horrible. I just slept. My partner wrapped her headphone plastic covering around the remote to control the entertainment unit... the backs of seats were filthy! It was a shame as I was happy to fly them and support them but again it was during this cost cutting period last year...

For me its the toilets in Economy class. It's constantly wet!

Not sure what you mean by "cost more (to redeem) but you earn less".

Yes crashing is bad luck. But with all adverse events, it's your performance with remediation that is key.

I think OneMileAtATime posted a story saying that flyers earn less in points when flying... and it costs more points to use to book a reward flight!

I agree re MAS Toilets.... disgusting.
