Marriott Hotels offers guests in-room Netflix access

Guests at selected Marriott hotels now enjoy easy access to Netflix on their in-room television – either by subscribing for the paid service during their stay or logging in and utilising their existing Netflix plan.

It’s as simple as clicking on your HDTV’s Netflix app and enjoying the same movies and TV shows that you would at home, with Marriott claiming it’s a first for a chain hotel.

“Our collaboration with Netflix responds to changing consumer preferences in the way our guests access and watch content, while recognizing the leading role Netflix is playing in driving this transformation,“ said Matthew Carroll, Vice President Brand Management, Marriott Hotels.

“Because consumers are choosing to take their streaming content with them when they travel, Marriott Hotels is making the industry’s first rollout of Netflix a priority.”

In-room Netflix access is now available at the New York Marriott East Side, Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott Solana, San Jose Marriott, Princeton Marriott, Newport Marriott and Bethesda Marriott Suites properties, with six more joining them over the coming months.

Among them: Marriott Marquis Washington DC, San Francisco Marriott Marquis and Atlanta Marriott Marquis, with plans to have 100 Marriott hotels linked up by the end of 2015, and the bulk of the chain’s 300+ US properties by the end of 2016.

Conveniently, hotel guests will only need to log in once during their stay and will be automatically logged out when checking-out of the hotel, although it’s not yet known if Marriott’s Australian hotels will gain a similar upgrade.

Access to Netflix will also be rolled out to the group’s other brands such as The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott and Courtyard in years to come.

Well, that's stupid. It costs ten bucks a month, why not just include it with the darn room?

I'd suggest this is being offered more as a point of difference for those already subscribed to Netflix.

This way your regular shows and favourite listings are all avilable to you, on a bigger screen.

Or you could just plug your laptop into the TV and log in using the wifi.
