MAS gears up for double daily A380 flights on London-KL

Malaysia Airlines will switch its second daily Kuala Lumpur-London flight from a Boeing 747 to a new Airbus A380 this month, following the airline's A380 debut earlier this year on that same route.

The move is made possible by today's arrival of the third MAS A380 from Airbus HQ in Toulouse, France, with a fourth A380 due by the end of this week.

Malaysia Airlines will use these two superjumbos to start daily daytime flights from KL to London Heathrow on November 24.

Flight MH4 will depart KLIA at 10.45am to arrive London Heathrow the same day at 4.15pm; the return flight MH1 is wheels-up in London at 10pm, reaching reach KLIA the next day at 6.20pm.

This day service will complement Malaysia Airlines’ current A380 overnight service to the UK capital.

(MH2 departs KLIA at 11.40pm to land in London at 5.50am the following day; the return flight MH3 leaves London at 12 noon, touching down in Kuala Lumpur at 7.25am the next day.)

Malaysia Airlines will receive its remaining two A380s in the first quarter of 2013, with these slated for the Kuala Lumpur-Paris route.

MAS previously planned to bring its A380 onto the Sydney-KL route from November 26 this year, with Melbourne tipped to follow in March, to provide an 'A380 all the way' experience from Sydney and Melbourne through to London, but axed that plan in early October.

* Shakes fist at MAS * What about Sydney? Why did you leave us with the 747 instead of a shiny new A380?

Really Al. Sydney misses out. oh dear. You may think that Sydney is a world class city and oh so important, but really its not. Im guessing that you have travelled to real world class cities that have more than just a harbour to attract people.

Sydney was "world class" enough for MAS to have put both it and Melbourne onto its A380 route map a few months ago, for reasons unknown they then dropped Sydney and Melbourne, as reported here https://www.executivetraveller.com/mas-axes-airbus-a380-for-sydney-melbourne-boosts-london-paris.

So MAS must have thought Sydney was a world class city too!

I would suggest that it has more to do with yeild (profitability) than anything else which will determine whether MAS A380 comes to our shores. I think in the long run MAS will want to compete with the many carriers bringing A380,s to Australian cities, considering their price point is now very similar with most other carriers to Europe using A380. They havent recieved all their A380,s on order ( i think) so , you never know, it may still happen.
