New-look SkyTeam airport lounges for Hong Kong, Dubai, Beijing

SkyTeam will open new airport lounges at Dubai and Beijing in 2016, and they'll look quite different to the airline alliance's current lounges at Sydney, London (below) and Istanbul.

The new design concept, crafted by Brandimage, goes for a lighter and more timeless touch of natural oak wood, light beige and soft grey, although touches of white and green remain.

We've already seen a first look at this blueprint in Hong Kong, where SkyTeam opened a new lounge in late October, and now it's ready to be rolled out to all new lounges, starting with Dubai in the first quarter of 2016 and Beijing by year's end.

Each of the new-look lounges will sport a wave-shaped sculpture into which the welcome desk is integrated.

Picking up the theme, curved wooden room dividers break up the space without turning the lounge into a series of boxes.

This is adapted to include long snaking benches where travellers can work...

... or grab a snack from the buffet.

New features will include these 'privacy pods'...

... and a dedicated Yoga Room.

Familiar elements from older SkyTeam lounges get a modern make-over, including the wine bar.

Brandimage has retained SkyTeam's signature green 'living wall' comprised of dozens of plant species.

SkyTeam member airlines include Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Delta, Garuda Indonesia, Korean Air and Vietnam Airlines.

Looks nice, in a "this will be severely dated in seven years' time" kind of way.

I like how these lounges look.

Skyteam really are kicking up the design/aesthetics things... with Garuda's new 777-300ERs (and First Class lounge), Air France's new product, Delta's rebranding/new product/new lounges, China Airlines' new product and lounges, Alitalia getting a makeover from Etihad...

The Skyteam alliance has for a long time been considered third rate. All these initiatives seem very likely to result in a great improvement.
