Travellers staying at a Hilton hotel in Perth will once again be lounge-less, with the chain's most recent property – the DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Northbridge – closing its Executive Lounge "due to business considerations".

The Executive Lounge is a popular haunt for top-tier Hilton Honors Diamond members and guests staying on the executive floors (including upgraded Gold members), hosting a breakfast buffet and evening drinks and snacks.

A spokesperson for Hilton confirmed to Executive Traveller that the Executive Lounge closure was permanent, and that "all remaining bookings with Executive Lounge access were honoured."

"Our loyal Diamond Hilton Honors Members will receive their breakfast benefit in the restaurant. Similarly, Gold Hilton Honors Members that may have chosen breakfast as a ‘MyWay’ benefit will also be able to enjoy continental breakfast in the restaurant," they explained.

It's not yet known what will take the place of the Executive Lounge, although the space is currently available for private functions.

The Northbridge property was one of the first hotels under the DoubleTree umbrella to operate an Executive Lounge in Australia. Western Australia's other Hilton property, the ageing Parmelia Hilton Perth, does not feature a lounge space.

Hilton's third property in the west – the upcoming DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Waterfront – is still on-track to open in Q4 2020.

Set by the edge of the Swan River and adjacent to Elizabeth Quay, the hotel will feature an Executive Lounge, likely with panoramic views to take in the sunset.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Waterfront's website indicates that it will be opening around November 2020.

However, the spokesperson for Hilton revealed to Executive Traveller that the lounge "will not be open to guests for the first six months or so," hinting that it may instead be unveiled around June 2021.

I believe the Parmelia's recent (or still underway?) refurb includes the addition of an Executive Lounge.

A review of the Parmelia's rooms post-refurb would be interesting.

If the Parmelia is indeed adding an Executive Lounge, maybe two 'Lounge equipped' Hilton properties in Perth was too many?

I often stay at the Parmelia and although not having a lounge, it doess give Diomond members vouchers for both drinks and tapas plates served fresh from the restaurant in the bar. In many ways, a better option than lounge nibbles and the Tapas changes daily.

I was there in March and EL was already closed. They gave me voucher for 2 drinks per day plus 1 set of canape in tue bar. Breakfast was offered at the restaurant but it strictly continental, the choices was very limited as there wasn't even cold cut meat. Just fruits, cereals and breads.

Then it all got shut down and I had to rush back to BNE before QLD closed its border.

I liked the EC Lounge at the Hotel and it was one of the reason I chose to stay there prior to the facility being closed. Very quiet and private. Of note the Hotel at the time (prior to covid) seemed to be very popular with visiting asian groups. The Hotel may well be reconsidering its target market and an EC Lounge may not fit in the demographic. Shame really.
