Etihad Airways' frequent flyers may be grounded, but their precious Tier Miles will continue to pile up over the coming months and ensure the retain their status in the Etihad Guest rewards program.

Between March and June, Etihad will issue free Tiler Miles to Silver, Gold and Platinum members based on " a monthly average of miles members earn flying with Etihad Airways and are required to maintain their existing Tier."

Guest Silver members report seeing 1,500 Tier Miles slide into their account every month, with Guest Golds garnering 3,000 Tier Miles and Guest Platinums pocketing 8,000 Tier Miles.

(Those amounts are in fact slightly off the 12 monthly targets to retain status – which sit at 20,000 Tier Miles for Silver, 40,000 Tier Miles for Gold and 100,000 Tier Miles for Platinum.)

The bonus Tier Miles will be automatically credited into every status member's account by the last day of each month, beginning March 31, and will continue to May 31, with Etihad allowing that an extension of the scheme "will be considered" depending on how the situation with COVID-19 flight cancellations plays out.

Members will receive only Tier Miles which contribute towards status, not Guest Miles which can be used for reward seats and upgrades

As a fillup for when its frequent flyers do start flying again, Etihad is also offering double Tier Miles on every flight up until June 30, 2020.

Double miles posting within 10 days of travel automatically - pretty happy with the deal. Really hoping Etihad can come back from this with same success they have been experiencing up until the end of January 2020 - loads have been very high, menus vastly improved in lounge and inflight. Will be interesting to see what this crisis does to the openning of Midfield Terminal in AUH!

I appreciate that this is an old thread. As an Etihad Gold member I get 36,000 tier miles credited per year. As the article says, this is 4,000 short of the amount required to retain the tier. I assume that something else will have to be credited as everyone will lose their status. Also,as they add three months on at the end of every “status year” I wonder if this would be added as an extra 9,000 would do the trick. If we’re allowed to travel in the coming months then it won’t be an issue but there are no signs of opening up to the general public.

@Reckless  - it has certainly been quiet on the Etihad front this year for now at least, the monthly tier miles continue to post. One saving grace from last year was the tier qualifications amount was reduced by 20% across the board  (so maintaining platinum for instance went from 100k tier miles to 80k tier miles). As a Gold that should cover you - hopefully the policy will continue through this year as well.

As great as the tier mile credits are.... I just want to be back in the air with them! Currently overseas and have not been able to make it back to Aus yet since the pandemic begun - 14 flight reschedules in and still not clear when / if I will be return. Keeping both EY and QR bookings with fingers crossed for when the time comes!

@longwayround - Thanks for your reply. I think you are right and I should be all right but like you I look forward to the time when we’re back in the air.
