Hilton is tightening the requirements for its long-standing Hilton Honors status match program by removing the ability to match directly to Diamond status from the top tier of a competing hotel loyalty scheme.
Under the previous promotion, qualifying for Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond status could see you granted 90 days of instant status at those tiers so you could begin enjoying perks such as complimentary breakfast, room upgrades, and for Diamond members, confirmed access to the club or executive lounge from day one.
Between four and eight stays – for Gold and Diamond, respectively – were needed within that trial period to lock up your status for a further year.
Hilton Honors' new status match rules
Under the revised Hilton Honors status match (also known as a status challenge) program, guests can now only receive 90 days of Gold status – Diamond is off the menu.
The requirements to keep or upgrade that tier have also been revamped:
- Stay 10 nights within 90 days to keep Hilton Honors Gold until 31 March 2021
- Stay 18 nights within 90 days to upgrade to Diamond status until 31 March 2021
Changing the requirement from stays to nights means that travellers who book multiple nights at each property – which is the the habit of most business travellers – will come out ahead.
Perks of Hilton Honors Gold, Diamond
Hilton Honors Gold puts you in line for some great benefits such as complimentary continental breakfast at all properties, which can sometimes be upgraded to the full hot breakfast at the discretion of each property.
There's also a space-available upgrade up to rooms on a hotel's Executive Floor level, which in turn grants you access to that hotel's Executive Lounge – a place to get some work done during the day before unwinding with evening drinks and canapés.
Notched up 18 nights within the trial period to earn Hilton Honors Diamond?
You can also look forward to Executive Lounge access by default, regardless of which room type you are booked into, while the space-available upgrade options include one-bedroom suites where you'll have a lot more room to stretch out.
