Virgin adds Velocity reward seat search to ChatGPT
Virgin Australia becomes the first Australian airline to bring flight search into ChatGPT.
Velocity Frequent Flyer members can now search for reward seat availability across multiple dates directly within ChatGPT, as Virgin Australia becomes the first Australian airline to integrate flight search into the AI platform.
The new functionality lets members find and compare Velocity reward seats without visiting the airline’s website, surfacing availability across different travel dates and showing Points, Points + Pay and cash fare options side by side.
However, this feature is restricted to Virgin Australia-operated flight.
ChatGPT won’t show Velocity reward seats on Virgin’s Doha flights, which are operated by Qatar Airways, or on the flights of other Virgin partners such as Air Canada, Singapore Airlines or United Airlines.
Beyond reward seat search, the ChatGPT integration can surface destinations based on budget or departure city, highlight lower-fare travel periods and display the cheapest fares across a range of dates – useful for members with flexibility on timing.
The tool is accessed via the Virgin Australia app within ChatGPT. Users describe what they’re looking for in plain language and are directed to relevant Virgin Australia flights and reward seat options.
Virgin Australia CEO Dave Emerson said the integration was designed to reduce friction for members looking to redeem points.
“We’re unlocking more value for Velocity members with a new way to locate reward seats directly within ChatGPT, making it easier than ever for members to redeem their points on flights.”
