Mandarin Oriental set for Shanghai

China’s ‘second city’ will be home to the country’s second Mandarin Oriental hotel with the upscale chain to open a new luxury hotel in Pudong, Shanghai in 2013.

Situated in the heart of the Lujiazui Central Financial District, the Mandarin Oriental Pudong will be part of the 25 hectare Harbour City development and a short still to the nearby Shanghai Stock Exchange along with the regional headquarters of major financial institutions.

The location puts it within a 50 minute drive of both Pudong and Hongqiao international airports.

Designed by Arquitectonica’s Bernardo Fort-Bresci, the hotel will feature 362 guestrooms and 210 serviced apartments plus a 25 metre indoor swimming pool.

China’s first Mandarin Oriental is due to open in Guangzhou next month.

China's first MO is already open, in Sanya. Guangzhou would be the 2nd Mandarin property, with Shanghai it's 3rd.
